Kim Schaefer
Kim serves as Abara’s chief architect and as the Director of the Abara House Project. She is a seasoned architect and pioneer in sustainable design and development practices, specializing in energy efficiency and water conservation for all projects. She has also led multiple historic preservation and environmental conservation projects.
Kim, through her architectural practices in Texas and formerly in Virginia and Maryland, has been an early adopter of all things green. As a sustainability consultant and LEED-accredited professional, she promotes the US Green Building Council LEED Rating system. Kim is a Harvard-educated architect with over 40 years of experience creating sustainable design solutions for public, private, and non-profit clients.
We are so grateful for the expertise and passion that Kim brings to our team. Kim arrived in El Paso with a fresh vision for life and community. She is a brilliant collaborator, shares a deep love for people, and exhibits generous faith among her neighbors and colleagues.
Kim is eager to connect with anyone who wants to learn more about Abara House and how people can join the process of restoring Historic Hacienda as stewards and neighbors working together. In her spare time, she enjoys breaking bread with friends, growing her garden, and traveling, especially to the National Parks.
Her faith is foundational to her work, which makes her life always an adventure in following Jesus, wherever he leads. After four amazing years in El Paso, Kim has relocated to Austin, Texas, while continuing to work for Abara as a remote teammate, making several visits to the borderlands per year.
