Relational Connection
Abara House
The future home of Abara is a peace-building center located only feet from the border wall.
A Global Borderland Center for Peace and Transformation
We’re building a first-of-its-kind peace-building center just steps from the U.S.-Mexico border at one of North America’s most historic crossings. This 4-acre site is being restored as a global hub for learning, advocacy, and hospitality—where communities gather to connect, reframe narratives, and take meaningful action.
- A Gathering Place – Featuring a café, artisan market, event venue, and training spaces to foster community and economic opportunity.
- A Space for Reflection & Learning – Including a desert chapel, contemplative gardens, and immersive exhibits exploring migration and justice.
- A Platform for Sustainable Impact – Designed to be financially self-sustaining, with 60% of operational costs covered by revenue from hospitality, events, and programming.
Abara House is a historic, visionary space—the only dedicated peace-building center on the entire 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border. Located just 15 feet from the border fence, this 4-acre site is rooted in the centuries-old crossroads of migration, trade, and cultural exchange.
Not only does Abara House stand at the edge of today’s political border, but it is also one of the most historically significant crossroads in North America:
- Apache and Indigenous Communities traversed this land for centuries before colonial contact.
- Spanish settlers took their first steps into the region along this very route.
- The Texas Revolution and Mexican Revolution shaped the political landscape, with figures like Pancho Villa who was married inside the historic Hacienda building.
- Chinese laborers, Jewish immigrants, and formerly enslaved Black individuals found both hardship and resilience here, some of whom were even buried on this land.
