As we learn to read places, those places end up reading us. We want to avoid the “ugly American” attitude that too often precedes the reputation of the U.S. locally and abroad. We choose instead to enter spaces as guests. Abara centers the hopes, dreams, and concerns of neighbors who are local experts within their own communities. Asylum seekers demonstrate spiritual strength, resilience, and carry stories yet to be heard.

All Inclusive 3-Day, 3-Night
2025 Rates
Groups 6-9 - $745 per person
Groups 10+ - $695 per person
Extra nights are $35 per night

Trip costs include: program expenses (transportation, staff costs, honorariums for speakers, shelter support, migrant legal assistance), catering costs (we use caterers in the Rio Grande Historic District with food handling licenses), and Abara apartment accommodations* (continental breakfasts included)

Abara has three full apartments where groups stay above the Abara offices. They are beautiful spaces that combine multiple baths, kitchens, master bedroom, bunk beds, and living rooms.
